Robert J. and Nancy D. Carney Institute for Brain Science

Research

The Carney Institute community is united under the common goal of understanding how brain circuits generate and control complex behavior.

Research Areas

Carney research projects fall into one or more of five identified research areas.

Discoveries in brain science will dramatically reshape human capabilities, and Brown will be a leader in this critical endeavor.

More in research

The Carney Institute for Brain Science provides funds to support summer undergraduate research experiences, graduate student training and postdoctoral training. Additionally, the Carney Institute supports interdisciplinary research through the New Frontiers awards, and highly creative research projects through the Innovation fund.
As Carney Institute for Brain Science researchers strive to understand how brain circuits produce complex behavior, they also develop new tools that can help other scientists answer questions about the brain. Find out more about some of these tools.
